About IEW

International Education Week is a nation-wide event sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural affairs. Texas State’s IEW started Nov. 11 and lasts through Nov. 15. The Study Abroad Office and the International Office will host further events and presentations throughout the rest of the month.

The Thornton International House is located at 344
West Woods. The study abroad office and international
office are located inside and offer programs to students in
Japan, Argentina, Spain and many more.

“International Education Week’s goal is to educate individuals about international students who are in Texas studying abroad,” said Lisa Damron, Coordinator at the International Office.  “It also encourages U.S. citizens, particularly students, to participate in international education and study abroad trips.”

Some of the events included in IEW are a study abroad general information session, the first annual West Indian Carnival Celebration, and the International Minds Project.  Intercultural Communication Specialist Emi Kanemoto will speak at the International Minds Project where she will give tips that help individuals understand who international students are, why they are studying abroad, what their visa type means and what kind of obstacles they have to overcome as international students.  A Thanksgiving lunch for international students on November 22 will officially end the IEW at Texas State.

Study abroad information pamphlets are available
for students in the lobby of the Thornton International House.
“International Education creates lifelong friendships between students and it strengthens the bond between nations,” said Secretary of State John Kerry in a video clip on the Bureau’s website.  “These connections are especially helpful in diplomacy, which is rooted as we all know in relationships between people, and which seeks to develop those relationships between countries.”
